In the year 1966, local
587 was in it's infancy. The charter was signed in November of
the previous year and this was to be the first full year of the local's existence. George Silvia was the residing President with Harold
Dennis sitting in the Chief Steward's chair. Filling the Shop Committee
positions were J. J. Spotts, Jr., N. M. Violet, and G. H. Capron. The Vice
President, who's position was not part of the negotiating committee at the
time is not known at this point due to the lack of available documentation
for 1966. After
serving as Local President, Chief
Steward Harold Dennis left local 587 and Raytheon to start his own machine shop in the
area.
The
negotiating committee, along with Business Agent W.J. Baillargeon, met with
the following company negotiators to forge this year’s contract:
Ralph Martin, Fred Darnley, E. Leonard Kane, W. Rogers Hamel, Robert
Dewhurst, Robert Crump, Walter Lee
