The Year 1994

In 1994, Tony Piermont was President and Jack Silva was Vice President. Shop Committee members Angelo Latini, Jed Davis and Edward Ferreira completed the Negotiating Committee. David Kay was Recording Secretary and Angelo Latini was Secretary Treasurer. John R. Capobianco was our Business Agent.

Local 587 voted for a 14.2% pay-cut for this years contract, effective February 1, 1994. At the time, work was slow and rumors surfaced that indicated that Raytheon could pull out of Portsmouth, closing the RI facility. The company also sought tax relief from the town of Portsmouth.

The pay cut with two subsequent years of 0% increases set the union back monetarily, and there are many who wonder if a strike would have been in order, but considering the atmosphere of the business at that time, there were few who wanted to take the risk of losing the RI facility.

The negotiating committee, along with Business Agent John R. Capobianco, met with the following company negotiators to forge this year's contract: C. Dale Reis, Michael Gates, John Mahon, Joseph C. DeBillio, Guy Harris, Francis Germani, Barry R. Steiner
